Course Overview

Turnberry Ailsa

Nestled atop a windswept cliff overlooking the Firth of Clyde, Turnberry Golf Club is a legend etched not just in golfing history, but in the very fabric of Scotland itself. The Ailsa Course, designed by the legendary Charles Blair Macdonald, is a masterpiece of strategic bunkering, undulating greens, and breathtaking vistas.

The silhouette of the lighthouse and ruined castle that have become a symbol of Turnberry is steeped in history. The iconic lighthouse was built in 1873 by Thomas and David Stevenson, the father and uncle of the famous writer, Robert Louis Stevenson, on a site amidst the ruined walls of Turnberry castle where legend has it that Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, was born in 1274.

Whether standing on the iconic 18th tee with the beautiful Turnberry hotel in the distance, or navigating the treacherous “Rabbit Hole” bunker, golfers at Turnberry are transported to a world where time stands still and the only thing that matters is the next shot.
