Links House Dining room in Dornoch on Ultimate Highlands Tour

Day 1: Travel to Dornoch via Inverness Airport

Your tour of the Highlands begins in Dornoch.  You will arrive in Inverness where you’ll be met by your private coach and tour host who will be at your beck and call for the duration of the trip.

Once the group is assembled, you will begin your journey north to Dornoch where you will spend 3 nights in the luxurious 5-star accommodations of Links House. Located less than 100 yards from the first tee at Royal Dornoch, Links House used to be a family home. Those origins are apparent in the cozy atmosphere characterized by hand-picked antique furniture and curated art adorning the walls. Even with one foot in the past, however, the hotel also features some of the finest modern dining experiences you’ll find in the north of Scotland.

The evening will feature a private dinner hosted private dining experience at Links House. Sit back and indulge in Chef Kevin Barber’s creativity in menus which explore his passion for fine dining. You’ll experience a seasonal menu that features locally sourced produce picked fresh every day.

Day 2: Golf the Highland Jewel

Make sure you eat a good breakfast because you have a big day of golf ahead! In the morning, you’ll walk over to the Donald Ross masterpiece, Royal Dornoch which hugs the rugged coastline along the windswept dunes of the Dornoch Firth. Don’t get too caught mesmerized by this natural links wonder or this challenging links course will eat you alive!

Every hole presents its own unique challenge, and golfers need to be precise and respectful of the elements to do well. You’ll almost always be playing into the prevailing winds, so you’ll need to be on your toes. The course is known especially for its 14th hole, a beautiful par 4 abundant with natural mounds and an elevated green. There’s a good reason why so many tours for golf in the Highlands of Scotland begin here — Royal Dornoch is a jewel of the Highlands and represents some of the best golfing to be had anywhere in the world.

The evening is all about relaxing after your golfing marathon. We suggest the cozy Coach House. This casual restaurant is a favorite among the locals.

Day 3: A Hidden Gem and a Dram

Today you’ll be immersed in Highland’s culture. In the morning, you will play an Old Tom Morris gem, Tain Golf Club. This is a wonderful golfing experience in a friendly, unpretentious environment…Highland hospitality at its finest! Even the most experienced duffers will find a challenge here, with numerous forced carries over the heather as well as fairways edged by dense gorse plants that make the rough truly rough.

In the afternoon, you’ll be immersed in a culinary adventure with an unforgettable whiskey-tasting experience at Glenmorangie, one of the most famous distilleries in the world. The distillery is one of the most acclaimed in the country, attracting generations of distillers to bring their craft and contribute to its long history. Brora Golf Club

Day 4: Golf a James Braid Highlands Classic

As you say goodbye to Dornoch, your private shuttle will escort you a few miles north for your morning round at Brora, often recognized as being one of James Braid’s finest pieces of work. Recognized as a perfect balance between fun and challenge, no other course in Scotland has so many holes so close to the sea. This creates some truly stunning and breathtaking views from virtually any vantage point. In particular, the par-3 ninth hole is known as the “Sea Hole” because the North Sea forms one of the most daunting and awe-inspiring water hazards you’re likely to see. Even though many tours groups overlook it due to its location far to the north, we’re sure you’ll agree that it’s one of the hidden gems among Scottish Highland golf courses. As you leave the town of Brora, check out Dunrobin Castle, a beautiful castle overlooking the Moray Firth that could have come straight from a Disney film!

Our afternoon journey south (the longest transition on this tour…a mere 75 minutes) will take us to a quintessential Scottish country house, The Coal House Hotel where owners will bathe you in Scottish hospitality.

Fly fishing in a river in the Scottish Highlands

Day 5: A Day to Experience Highland's Culture

One of the reasons we love to include the Coul House Hotel in this tour is its country setting provides a unique way to experience life in the Highlands. Featuring stunning 18th century architecture and some of the most beautiful gardens in the area, Coul House is a spectacular place to rest up and get your bearings. The hotel is especially well situated for those wishing to take a day’s break from golf and partake in one of Scotland’s many other outdoor activities. For the fishing enthusiasts, fly fishing in one of the many Scottish rivers is something you’ll never forget. For the hikers, the Munro peaks are waiting to be challenged! Of course, if all you feel like doing is soaking in the luxurious accommodations, no one would blame you.

Another reason we love the Coul House Hotel is for the food! To conclude your Scottish country experience, we’ve arranged for local chef Garry Kenley to prepare one of his culinary feasts in a private dining setting where you will sample the best in traditional Scottish cuisine featuring locally sourced ingredients. Everything on the menu is made entirely from scratch, all the way down to the ice cream for dessert. But you’ll definitely want to save room for Chef Garry’s pastries, including scones, shortbread, and bridies.
