Royal Portrush Overview

Royal Portrush is rated as one of the most challenging and spectacular links courses in the world. The Links is named after the nearby ruins of the medieval Dunluce Castle located on the edge of a basalt outcropping overlooking the sea between Portrush and Portballintrae.

The original architect was the famed Harry Colt who produced a breathtaking golf links opening up views of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2015, in for the hosting of The Open in 2019, redesign works commenced under the stewardship of Martin Ebert. For the next 18 months, the shifting sands gave way to the building of five new greens, eight new tee boxes, 10 new bunkers and the creation of two new holes, the 7th and 8th, on land which was once part of the Valley Links.

The result is a magnificent layout providing a fair and scenically stunning challenge for golfers and Host of The Open Championship in 2025.

Royal Portrush is the type of course that makes you appreciate how good the touring pros really are.  I had the privilege of playing Royal Portrush as a guest of two of the members, one being the former club championship.  The wind was howling that day and my greatest accomplishment that day was making him laugh at how inept i was in the Irish winds!  Despite it all, this is no doubt a course worthy of taking on the worlds best as it will in July 2025 for the Open Championship.
