Overview
Ayrshire is the beautiful region on the west coast of Scotland just south of Glasgow. Think sandy beaches, seaside towns and cliff top castles that tower over the water. We’ll whisk you through Ayrshire in all its glory – by land, air, and sea, embracing the very essence of this seaside paradise. You’ll challenge eight championship courses, including three hosts of The Open Championship, wander charming towns steeped in history and lose yourself in the rhythm of hidden coves.
You will arrive in Glasgow where your private coach will escort you to Turnberry, home of the iconic lighthouse built in 1873 by Thomas and David Stevenson, father and uncle of the famous writer, Robert Louis Stevenson, on a site amidst the ruined walls of Turnberry castle where legend has it that Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, was born in 1274.
From here, you will be swept away in a private chartered helicopter over the Firth of Clyde to Machrihanish near the southern tip of the Kintyre peninsula which, for Americans, may evoke memories of Bandon Dunes. These memories will only be reinforced when you play Bandon Dunes’ architect David McLay Kidd’s latest masterpiece, Machrihanish Dunes. As you play this award-winning course and the neighboring Machrihanish Golf Club, a world-top-100 course laid out in 1879 by Old Tom Morris, take in the breathtaking vistas and majestic dunescape.
No Kintyre odyssey is complete without surrendering to the siren song of Campbeltown’s storied drams. Three legendary distilleries await, each a portal to a world of swirling amber and heady aromas.
Next it’s time to ditch the sticks and bring out the shades as you set sail on your private yacht exploring Scotland’s Western Isles. Picture sun-drenched cliffs rising like sentinels, the ocean stretching like an endless turquoise tapestry, and hidden coves whispering secrets of forgotten times. This is no mere sailing trip, it’s an immersion into the very heart of the Western Isles, where some of the world’s best sailing grounds intertwine with scenery so breathtaking, it will captivate your soul.
Your home for the next three nights is an exquisite private country house just outside of Troon nestled in secluded surroundings with the stunning coastline of Ayrshire on its doorstep. What’s also on your doorstep are two Open Championship classics and two gems.
Our Ayrshire golf tours have been masterfully crafted with the perfect blend of world class golf with unforgettable experiences, immersing you in the very essence of Ayrshire.

Itinerary
Day 1: The Ayrshire experience begins!
Your tour of Ayrshire’s finest golf clubs begins in Turnberry. Once you arrive in Glasgow, you’ll be met by your private coach and tour host who will be at your beck and call for the duration of the trip. Our Ayrshire golf tours offer you an exceptional experience from start to finish. Whether you’re on or off the course, we will be there to do whatever it takes to make your trip one to remember.
Once the group is assembled, you will begin your journey south to Turnberry where you will spend 2 nights in the luxurious 5 star accommodations of Iconic Trump Turnberry Resort. In addition to its famous courses, the hotel also offers a selection of restaurants and bars as well as a spa where guests can luxuriate and restore their bodies and minds. It’s a great place to begin your golfing adventure and sets the perfect stage for what’s to come.
If you arrive early enough, check out the Turnberry Golf Academy. A combination of world class practice facilities, cutting edge technology and expert PGA professional expertise, a couple hours at this facility is the perfect way to prepare your swing for the days ahead!
You’ll begin the evening with welcome cocktails and an informal tour briefing from your Black Sheep Golf Tours Concierge. Dinner in the unforgettable Duel in the Sun restaurant would be a good choice for this evening. Named after the famous battle between Tom Watson & Jack Nicklaus at the 1977 Open, it overlooks both the opening and closing holes of both courses.
Accommodations: Trump Turnberry Hotel
Day 2: The Turnberry Day
After breakfast, it’s time to challenge the Turnberry Links. First up, the expertly redesigned King Robert the Bruce course. Breathtaking vistas from the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of King Robert the Bruce delight golfers, with spectacular views of Turnberry’s stunning coastline, castle ruins and the lighthouse. Golfers will find a good challenge here, with plenty of opportunities to risk a big shot for tremendous reward. The greenside bunkers are shaped in such a way that you will need a perfect shot to recover, meaning it’s best to watch your step on your approach.
The Ailsa Course is on the docket for the afternoon. This course was designed by the legendary Charles Blair Macdonald and noted as a masterpiece of strategic bunkering, undulating greens, and breathtaking vistas. The tee at the 18th hole gives you a spectacular view of the hotel in the distance, while conquering the infamous “Rabbit Hole” bunker is a feather in the cap of any golfer worthy of the challenge. This classic course is also the famous duel between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson in the 1977 Open Championship.
Dinner this evening is a special treat as you will have a VIP private dining experience at The Chef’s Table in 1906. This private dining experience allows unrivaled access to a live, theatrical, culinary performance featuring Turnberry’s brigade of talented chefs.

Day 3: Your Helicopter has arrived, Machrihanish Awaits!
Swooping down from the clouds to front lawns of Turnberry…your private helicopter awaits to whisk you away over the Firth of Clyde to the southern tip of the Kintyre peninsula. This 20 minute adventure seemed like a better idea that the 4 hours drive alternative! This morning’s journey takes you to Scotland’s Award-Winning Seaside Resort, Machrihanish Dunes, your home for the next two nights. The natural beauty of Machrihanish will take your breath away!
Today’s round will be at Machrihanish Dunes, often called “The World’s Most Natural Course”. Machrihanish Dunes is another not-to-be-missed David McLay Kidd masterpiece. Just as he did with Bandon Dunes, Kidd designed each hole around the natural terrain of this pristine coastal environment. That means every shot you take will be backgrounded by some of the most breathtaking vistas you’ll ever experience. Just for example, the course features six greens and five tees right along the edge of the ocean. If you can tear your eyes away from the views long enough to focus on your game, there’s a lot to enjoy. The seaside setting and luxury accommodations are just two of the many reasons why our guests rave about this leg of their journey.
For dinner, we love the Blacksheep Pub! Yes, of course we like the name…but it’s the genuine friendliness of the staff that truly cares about each and every guest that makes this place special.

Day 4: Golf and Whiskey, a perfect combination!
After breakfast, you have the pleasure of playing yet another Machrihanish links treasure, Machrihanish Golf Club. This Old Tom Morris course offers golfers an extraordinary experience with each hole presenting breathtaking vistas overlooking Machrihanish Bay. Jack Nicklaus called the first hole of Machrihanish’s Championship Course “the best opening hole of golf in the world.” The course’s final hole is nothing to sneeze at, either — your final shot on #18 will be played facing the ruins of Dun Na Gall, an ancient fortress with centuries of history behind it.
After lunch, you take a quick ten minute shuttle to Campbeltown for a whiskey tasting experience. Today, the town is home to three renowned distilleries—Springbank (Scotland’s oldest family-run distillery), Glengyle, and Glen Scotia—whose high-quality offerings are known and appreciated by whiskey lovers around the world. Whether you’re an experienced afficionado or a casual enthusiast, you’re sure to have an exceptional experience tasting these world-class offerings. No matter if you’re toasting a great round or just the company you’re in, this is a great way to cap off your day on the course.
A great choice for dinner is the Harbourview Grille in the historic Royal Hotel. The Harbourview has an atmosphere of relaxed elegance where guests can enjoy perfectly seared steaks, skillfully prepared seafood, and everything in between.

Day 5: Set Sail for the open waters
So far, you’ve seen the Ayrshire Coast by land and by air. Today, we’ll take in all its beauty from the open waters on a private yacht. This full day excursion is yours to mold as you explore the sun-drenched cliffs and hidden coves of the Western Isles. You’ll be surrounded by natural splendor in every respect as you sail along the coastline and beyond, offering you the chance to enjoy the landscape even without a club in your hand.
On arrival into Troon harbor, a private coach will take you to Hillhouse, an beautiful Georgian House nestled in secluded surroundings. Built in 1780, Hillhouse remains family owned to this day, and has been refurbished to present a perfect mix of modern-day opulence and classic Georgian architecture. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland, it’s a fantastic place to spend some time and make moments with the right people. Over the next three days, your group will have exclusive use of this property where you will be taken care of by their attentive staff.
Your whiskey education continues in the evening as your Whiskey Guru unlocks the mysteries of Scotland’s renowned elixir while you sample some rare treats. A private hosted dinner will follow led by one of the region’s top local chefs.

Day 6: Two Gems in one day!
Hopefully you wake up refreshed today for a big day of golf as two local gems await. Grab a homemade scone and it’s off to Western Gailes, as traditional, attractive and testing Scottish links course as you could wish to find. Its opening holes direct you north, before the back nine take you in the opposite direction with the open sea on your right. When you arrive, be sure to save some of your resolve for the 17th hole, known as one of the most challenging par-4s in all of Scotland.
In the afternoon, you’ll play Dundonald, a modern masterpiece of a links golf course that combines heritage and tradition with contemporary surroundings and luxurious finishing touches. Dundonald is a fantastic experience for golfers of all skill levels, providing sweeping views across the Fifth of Clyde as well as being able to see all the way to the Isle of Arran.
Like everywhere in Scotland, there’s always great choices for dinner. If seafood is your craving, we might suggest Scotts in Troon Harbor.

Day 7: The Prestwick Experience
Today, you will become a temporary member of Prestwick Golf club, Home of The Open Championship. Through The Prestwick Experience, you become a member of the club for the day and are encouraged to take full advantage of the services they have to offer including use of the Smoke Room (the main Lounge) and having a formal lunch at the long table in the Dining Room (similar to Muirfield). You are allowed full access to the clubhouse to enjoy and absorb the hospitality and storied history of this great club.
If you can be pulled away from the club in time for dinner, there’s a wonderful fine dining restaurant nearby, Bisque Restaurant in the Lochgreen House Hotel. This high-end restaurant offers inventive, seasonal and locally sourced dishes juxtaposed with classic, old-school hospitality and glamor in a rural setting.
As for the course itself, the Old Tom Morris design gives you plenty to chew on in the form of blind shots, massive bunkers, and unpredictable greens. Whatever type of challenge you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it here. In a sense, it provides the perfect counterbalance to the welcoming atmosphere in the clubhouse, almost daring golfers to take their chances. There is a reason why the Open Championship was held here 12 times between 1860 and 1925, drawing many of the world’s top players.

Day 8: Play a Royal Treasure
The grand finale to this unforgettable adventure is Royal Troon, where the 2024 Open Championship will etch its legend into history. Stand where the world’s best have stood, tee up on the iconic “postage stamp” and “Railway” holes and test your skills against the world’s best. But Royal Troon is more than just a challenge, it’s a breathtaking beauty. Picture rugged cliffs guarding emerald fairways. It was designed specifically to blend into the land’s natural contours, taking advantage of the terrain to present golfers with a serious test of their skills. In addition, you’ll have amazing views of the North Sea serving as your backdrop throughout your day. This Ayrshire masterpiece is a fitting crescendo to your Ayrshire journey.
In the evening, you’ll head into Glasgow, back to where this adventure began. We’ve selected the 5-star Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel for the final evening, a landmark hotel celebrated for its gorgeous Georgian architecture, superior service and ideal location just outside city center. If time allows, a massage before dinner could be just what the doctor ordered!
One of the big reasons we like to end this tour in Glasgow is to take advantage of the fine dining options this city has to offer. Michelin Star Cail Bruich would be a perfect option! Chef Lorna McNee, the only current female chef in Scotland holding a Michelin star, creates elegant plates of food that make the most of Scotland’s seasonally changing ingredients prepared with respect and a lightness of touch. We want you to have an eminently memorable time during your tour, and we’ve chosen every aspect of this luxury golf package with care and thoughtfulness to make sure you’ll be satisfied.
